The Saskatchewan government is forecasting a record $2.4 billion deficit — what Finance Minister Donna Harpauer is calling a "pandemic deficit" — for 2020-21. It would be the largest deficit in provincial history, eclipsing the $1.2-billion deficit the government posted in 2016-17. It is a pandemic deficit," Harapuer said. There is $435 million dedicated to mental health and addictions — 7.5 per cent of the overall health budget. Provincial debt continues to rise, with operating debt at $7.3 billion and overall public debt at $24.3 billion, up from $21.6 billion at budget 2019-20.
