The new boys brought the box of big surprises this afternoon in Saratoga's Jim Dandy, with Good Samaritan, a rank newcomer to the Class of 2017, staging an impressive upset as he whipped the Kentucky Derby winner Almost Dreaming by a monstrous four and three-quarters lengths. Going off at 8-1, the fleet, sporting Good Samaritan brought his bettors a tidy $19.20. The highly-touted and heavily-bet favorite, Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming, broke well from the inside post and seemed, in the first turn, to have returned to form. The unremarkable Pavel ran fourth, and, saddest of all, Preakness winner and second-favorite Cloud Computing brought up the rear. Both the Derby and the Preakness winners were both simply outclassed and outrun by the aptly named newcomer Good Samaritan, who brought the unmistakable, uplifting, fresh breeze of talent to the race.
