OTTAWA — Colombia’s Nobel Peace Prize-winning president was met with blustery winds and a driving rain as he arrived at Rideau Hall today on his first official visit to Canada. Gen. Julie Payette, who is also hosting her first official state visit since being sworn in earlier this month. Santos was awarded the peace prize last year for his efforts to end Colombia’s half-century-long civil war. Before sitting down with Payette in Rideau Hall’s stately drawing room, Santos spoke of the strong connections between Canada and Colombia, particularly on the economic front. Santos was to meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later today before attending a state dinner.
