Santa soaks south for Christmas

Santa soaks south for ChristmasSanta had a special gift for Southland farmers on Christmas morning, with some much needed rain falling across the province. Gore took the prize as the town with the coldest Christmas morning nationally, with a low temperature of 11 degrees Celsius by noon, whilst Milford Sound was the wettest with 67.4mm of rain in the morning. This followed Metservice issuing a heavy rain warning for Fiordland, with between 30mm and 50mm having been forecast between 10am and noon. Children wanting to play with trampolines, bicycles and other outdoor equipment received for Christmas needed to remain patient, with rain not expected to clear until the afternoon. The region could expect further showers on Boxing Day, with Invercargill expecting showers overnight, clearing up by mid afternoon.
