Sandiganbayan Acquits Ex-Malabon Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Czarina Nicole Ong KiThe Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has acquitted former Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary Melvin Cuevas from the City of Malabon of his malversation case due to the failure of the prosecution to prove his guilt beyond reasonable doubt. In its ruling, the anti-graft court said that Cuevas is charged with malversation for failing to liquidate the cash advances despite demands from the Commission on Audit (COA). This is because Cuevas explained during his testimony that he settled the unliquidated cash advances before he resigned on July 1, 2004. At the same time, the court noted the “peculiar” circumstances surrounding the filing of complaint against Cuevas, which took place 12 years after the cash advances were allegedly unliquidated.
