Samsung Quits 4K Blu-ray Player Market

Samsung has confirmed to me today that it is no longer going to be making any new models of 4K Blu-ray player. But the arrival of HDR10+ also means we now have films appearing on 4K Blu-ray in two separate formats while only a handful of 4K Blu-ray players and TVs are capable of supporting both. While some high profile, award-winning films might be missing out on the 4K BD treatment, the overall number of 4K Blu-ray releases does seem to be generally escalating. There can be little doubt, though, that if the 4K Blu-ray format is going to have as long a life as AV fans would like, we’re all going to have to keep buying those discs. Something which would become much easier, of course, if the powers that be started to make them cheaper…—If you liked this article, you might also enjoy these:HDR Format War Update: CES Introduces Major New DevelopmentsA Star Is Born 4K Blu-ray Review: Lost In MusicBohemian Rhapsody 4K Blu-ray Review: A Star Is RebornWidows 4K Blu-ray Review: Crime Of PassionThe Grinch 4K Blu-ray Review: Green Party
