New Delhi: Within days of the announcement, the alliance between the incumbent Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections seems to be on the brink as both the parties have failed to arrive at a consensus on seat sharing. “Congress has a stronghold on 54 seats but we still offered them (Congress) over 90 seats. Being the bigger party, SP should ideally get a greater share of seats out of the 403 assembly seats. Similarly, Congress leaders have also maintained that there were no roadblocks in the alliance discussions between the two parties. The Congress had said Azad would hold talks with Uttar Pradesh chief minister and SP’s national president Akhilesh Yadav on the issue.
