The 22-year-old flanker damaged ankle ligaments playing for Bath against Leicester Tigers on December 30 and it represents a major setback to his hopes of winning a place in England’s 31-man World Cup squad. Underhill, whose international career has been disrupted badly by injury since he made his debut in 2017, will not have another competitive Test match in which to press his claims for World Cup selection.
