In Australia, the Haynes Royal Commission into Banking found plenty of problems, and the same companies own the big banks over here. The Australian banks have been accused of a patronising view of New Zealand, as if they are doing us a favour by being here. The New Zealand branches of the Australian banks make a big deal of making decisions independent of their parents.
