More breaches of regulation by Australian owned banks in New Zealand are being investigated and punished by the regulators here. In Australia, the Haynes Royal Commission into Banking found plenty of problems, and the same companies own the big banks over here. The Australian banks have been accused of a patronising view of New Zealand, as if they are doing us a favour by being here. The New Zealand branches of the Australian banks make a big deal of making decisions independent of their parents.
