Sales and profits rise at Morrisons


Morrisons said customers were visiting its shops more often as it lowered prices and improved its product Christopher Furlong/GettyWM Morrison has reported its seventh consecutive quarter of rising sales and posted its first growth in profits since it began a turnaround programme more than two years ago. The Bradford-based grocer said that its focus on reinvigorating its stores and improving its range of products meant like-for-like sales were up 3 per cent in the six months to July 30. Turnover was up 4.8 per cent at £8.42 billion. Pre-tax profit rose by nearly 40 per cent at £200 million and on an underlying basis profits were also up by 12.7 per cent at £177 million.
