Salceda bats for Trump ban in PHLEGAZPI CITY: Albay lawmaker Joey Salceda is seeking Congress to ban the entry of United States presidential candidate Donald Trump (Republican) in the Philippines for labeling Filipinos as citizens of a “terrorist state.” In a statement sent to The Manila Times, Salceda said Trump’s derogatory remark against the Filipinos that was carried by international news organizations put the people in a bad light. Salceda cited an Immigration order that list grounds for barring foreigners from entering the country. He urged Congress to adopt his House Resolution 143 seeking to bar Trump from entering the country as it will be prejudicial to the national interest. “There is no feasible basis or reasonable justification to the wholesale labeling of Filipinos as coming from a ‘terrorist state’ or that they will be a Trojan horse in foreign lands,” the lawmaker said. The international media reported that Trump warned that immigrants, including those from the Philippines, could create a potential pool of recruitment for “Islamist terror groups.” Salceda said the remark shames both Filipinos and Filipino Muslims as well as oversees Filipino workers who have been recognized as modern-day heroes of the country.
