NewsPresidential candidate Sajith Premadasa today (Oct 3) pledged to empower military personnel in order to combat global terrorism by granting them opportunities to engage in advanced training programmes. “We only need talented individuals, professionals, and specialists if we are to work towards the welfare of the people," he said. Among other promises were to strengthen the health, agriculture, fisheries, tea, and rubber sectors and also small enterprises by increasing budgetary allocations. Premadasa also pledged to set-up training institutes in English and IT at divisional secretariat levels for the youth in the country. He promised to protect and empower the children, youth and women during his rule.
