Sajid Javid has been appointed as home secretary, replacing Amber Rudd who resigned after repeatedly struggling to account for her role in the unjust treatment of Windrush-generation migrants. The mini-reshuffle was completed by the international development secretary, Penny Mordaunt, taking on the additional role of minister for equalities, held by Rudd. Javid, like Rudd a George Osborne protege like Rudd, was previously a minister in the Treasury.
