Sainsbury's warns of veggie shortages due to freight ban

Empty shelves at Sainsbury's in Crystal Palace, south LondonBritain's second biggest supermarket has warned gaps may start to appear on shelves within days after France's ban on freight from the UK. Sainsbury's said there would be shortages on products including lettuce, salad leaves and cauliflowers if transport ties with the continent are not restored quickly, Sky News reports. However the supermarket said it had "plenty" of products needed for "the Great British Christmas lunch". The CBI's deputy director general Joshua Hardie said it was "essential" for the freight transport ban to be lifted, tweeting: "Lockdowns + brexit + additional border blocks is an unmanageable equation." Sainsbury's said: "All products for the Great British Christmas lunch are already in the country and we have plenty of these.
