Things turned ugly on Saturday when people discovered the $100,000 ‘money drop’ wasn’t what they thought it was, and Ricardo Menendez says the promotion was wrong. A review by police is under way into a “$100k cash drop” event in central Auckland, which promised “actual money” but used mainly vouchers which looked like banknotes. The event, by The Safety Warehouse, was marketed as “New Zealand’s first ever mass cash drop”, with the promise of “actual money” flying from the sky to the tune of $100,000. He's now started a petition calling on The Safety Warehouse to honour the vouchers people claimed and exchange them for cash. Safety Warehouse managing director Andrew Thorn said his staff were left shaken up by the event.
