Sabah state minister tells water thieves to beware - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Water Department will go all-out against water thieves and illegal sub-sellers after 58 outsourced water treatment plant concessionaires had their contracts with the previous government terminated. “The state Water Department will absorb all its 1, 335 employees under them but their terms of employment including the duration of contract will be discussed and reviewed,” he said. He said after the termination of these concessionaires, the next step was to go after water thieves, adding that the thieves have contributed to water supply shortages and dishonest business deals. He explained that although the POIC itself gets water from the Water Department, groups of irresponsible people sell the stolen water to the many companies and businesses inside the POIC. “For our part, we will identify which areas are in dire need of water supply and send them assistance from the Water Department,” Anthony said.
