KOTA KINABALU: Sabah should take the lead in the setting up of English-medium government schools, said Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan (pic). Abdul Rahman said his proposal to reintroduce English-medium government schools would in no way threaten Bahasa Malaysia as the national language or diminish feelings of patriotism among Malaysians. “It is ridiculous that speaking English language will make us abandon Bahasa Malaysia or become less patriotic. Abdul Rahman, who is also Kota Belud MP, said that he had discussed the proposal with the Prime Minister, Sabah Chief Minister and some of his colleagues in the Federal Cabinet. Your access point to the global market becomes so much wider when you are fluent in the English language,” Rahman said.
