Sabah dodges Typhoon Tembin - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: Strong winds and wet weather were felt in coastal areas of Sabah as Typhoon Tembin left a trail of death and destruction in the southern Philippines. "We will still be getting some strong winds and rains in coastal areas, but it would not be from the tail-end of the typhoon," a spokesman for the Meteorological Department here said on Sunday (Dec 24). No serious incidents were reported in the state after strong winds and light and heavy rains were felt over the last two days. The Tempasuk and Abai rivers were at critical levels while Kadamaian was at a normal level, the spokesman said. At least 120 people were reported dead and some 160 others were reported missing in the southern Philippines after the typhoon triggered landslides and flooding Saturday (Dec 23).
