'SPYder' Claims Spectacular $7.8M / Rs. 51 Crore Worldwide Day 1 Gross

NV Cinema LLPSPYder producer NV Prasad has taken out ads proclaiming that his new $18 million-budgeted Mahesh Babu thriller has lured aggregate worldwide gross collections of 510 million rupees ($7.8 million) on its first day of release. That may not be a Baahubali-sized number, but it’s good enough to rank the debut among the dozen-biggest ever for an Indian movie. In domestic Indian business, The Times of India noted that SPYder took in approximately 24 crore ($3.67 million) in gross receipts from the Telugu language regions alone. Another 6.6 crore rupees ($1 million) came from the United States, where southern Indian films have been ascendant of late. That total marks the biggest debut in the territory ever for leading man Mahesh, and the third biggest this year amongst all Indian films.
