HAMILTON — Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal police shooting near a GO station in Hamilton. The Special Investigations Unit says Hamilton police officers responded to a call at about 11 p.m. Friday about an assault that happened outside a bar in the King William Street and Catharine Street North area. Shortly after the police arrived, the SIU says an officer recognized a man allegedly involved in the assault walking near the Go station. The SIU says a 36-year-old man was shot and later died in hospital. The SIU investigates whenever police officers are involved in incidents where someone is seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault.
