The Southern Institute of Technology is slightly down on student numbers from last year and is closely monitoring the impact the Government's fees-free scheme is having on the institute. Minutes of an SIT committee meeting this month says the SIT is tracking behind last year's student numbers because of the impact of the Government's tertiary fees-free scheme. He said the SIT management was monitoring the student numbers very closely in the first year of the nationwide fees free scheme. It was correct that the SIT was down more than 200 fulltime-equivalent student numbers on the previous year, he said.
