That SIGGRAPH was the first time that I genuinely believed that there was potential with VR and that—with some improvement—it had a chance. At SIGGRAPH this year, I saw a lot of diversity in the Emerging Technologies Showcase and VR Village. Many of the technologies I witnessed at the VR Village appeared to be experiences that built on the existing VR platforms, in ways to make them more immersive and engaging. Also demonstrated were multiple haptic technologies that use sound waves to simulate haptic feedback, including the Haptoclonear and the Touch Hologram in Mid-Air. Google also had a tiny booth inside of the VR Village that, in my opinion, showed off one of the more interesting implementations of mixed reality.
