Motorists will be temporarily diverted off SH3, near the Awakino bypass project site, through Hammonds Hill (foreground) to allow a stock underpass to be built. Motorists travelling north of New Plymouth on State Highway 3 at the weekend will be diverted to allow a stock underpass to be built near the Awakino tunnel bypass project site. The traffic switch is to allow construction of a stock underpass to begin. The temporary road, constructed in winter, will allow construction to start on the stock underpass with enough time to complete it this summer season, Wilton said. The Awakino Tunnel Bypass project is scheduled for completion in mid-2021.
