SDC councillors welcome $456,000 tourism infrastructure boostJohn Hawkins Southland District councillor John Douglas. The Government announcement that it will invest $456,000 into two tourism infrastructure projects to support Southland's growing visitor industry has been welcomed by Southland district councillors. And $220,565 is set aside for the provision of freedom camping facilities in the Lumsden town centre. The Southland Regional Development Strategy [SoRDS] was to grow tourism, "and to do that we need basic infrastructure in high growth areas". The investments nationwide were made through the first round of the tourism infrastructure fund.
