Despite the directive, school unrest throughout the country has led to property worth millions of shillings being lost through fires. Cheotulon Girls Secondary School in Marakwet West is one of the latest schools to have its dormitories gutted. Unconfirmed reports indicated that dormitories in St Don Bosco Nyabiosi Secondary School in Nyamira county were burning. School principal Rosemary Korir said on Friday efforts to put out the fire were futile as it caught on students' mattresses and clothes. The incident took place as a wave school arson attacks allegedly committed by irate students continues to cause panic in the education sector since June.
