The court will hear the PIL, which sought the delay because of assembly elections due in five states in February and March, on Monday. The government is also fighting another battle at the Election Commission (EC) on the budget date. In a letter to the cabinet secretariat on Wednesday, the EC sought a response from the government by Friday. According to the Press Trust of India, the EC has also asked for details on the process involved in preparing and presenting the Union budget.
