PESHAWAR: The Supreme Court on Thursday overturned the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) decision that acquitted a murder suspect and handed him a life sentence for killing a teenager. The man was sentenced for life by a trial court, however, the PHC had acquitted him. During the proceedings, the CJP lashed out against the practice of giving false statements before courts, stating that it creates hurdles for courts. Observing that “none of the witnesses had spoken the truth in this case”, Justice Khosa lamented that witnesses had no regard for their oath. “Here [in Pakistan] four people from a village say that an incident took place in broad daylight and four other people from the same village say that the same incident took place at night.”
