SC doesn't like ordinance that defied its order on single test for medical colleges, but lets it hold

On May 9, the Supreme Court had rejected the pleas of states and minority institutions to allow them to hold separate entrance exams for medical and dental colleges for 2016-17. But ambitious candidates had to write separate exams for a host of other colleges and state boards. It had approved the schedule submitted by the Union government, the Central Board of Secondary Education and Medical Council of India for treating the All India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Test (AIPMT) fixed for May 1 as NEET-1. The court had said that only the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) would be valid. In the AIPMT system, successful candidates were given seats in select government colleges across the country.
