ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday declared the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to postpone the elections in NA-60 as null and void. Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Shiekh Rasheed approached the apex court on July 24 against the ECP decision but the postponement was allowed to continue. The Supreme Court had decided that Rasheed’s plea would be heard later. On Wednesday however, the ECP was directed to conduct a by-election for NA-60 by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar. Shiekh Rasheed, who had also contested from the NA-62 seat and emerged victorious, lauded the decision and withdrew his petition against the ECP’s order.
