In a first for Philippine judiciary history, the Supreme Court held a retirement session online for Justice Andres Reyes Jr., who steps down today after 40 years in government. His father, the late Justice Andres Reyes Sr., was the former presiding justice of the Court of Appeals (CA). His grandfather, Alex Reyes Sr., was a justice of the CA and later appointed to the Supreme Court. Like his father and grandfather, Reyes also sat as a justice at the CA before his appointment to the Supreme Court. He rose from the ranks from 1987 to 1999, serving as a trial judge and later as a presiding justice.
