SBI reports 31.7% drop in Q1 net profit, beats estimates; gross NPA rises to 6.94%


Provisions for bad loans stood at Rs 6,340 crore, which were higher than Rs 3,360 crore in the previous quarter, the company said. Gross NPA for the bank rose to 13.52 per cent of gross advances as of June 30. This was the biggest intraday gains recorded by the scrip in over 1 year.Total provisions at Rs 7,410 crore for the quarter, compared with Rs 4,000 crore on YoY basis. Fresh slippages stood at Rs 87,904 crore for the quarter. "The culture of recognising them (NPAs) seems to be well embedded as well as the culture of recovery of some loans.
