SA Home Affairs Introduces One Border Management Authority

Two month’s after signing a waiver deal on diplomatic passports, the SA Home Affairs Department has announced its plans to introduce one authority to manage South Africa’s ports of entry in order to create better efficiency. The department said that the introduction of one authority marks one of its new policies contained in its white paper on migration management. South Africa’s ports of entry are currently managed by over 18 entities including the police, the South African Revenue Services (SARS) and Home Affairs. Minister Hlengiwe Mkhize, however, admitted that corruption exists at the ports, but she notes that they will be strengthening the anti-corruption unit. The question about the Gupta status was asked by Hlengiwe Hlophe on “the exceptional circumstances” that compelled the SA Home Affairs to grant the Gupta family South African citizenship.
