SA: 140MW wind energy project gets PPA, reaches financial close

A power purchase agreement (PPA) has been concluded for a 140MW wind energy project, the Umsinde Emoyeni Wind Farm. Under the terms of a 20-year PPA with Sibanye-Stillwater, the project will be fully funded by a project consortium which will build, own and operate the project. Reducing carbon emissions through wind energy PPAThis announcement comes at a time when mines across South Africa are looking to reduce their emissions and achieve energy independence, maintaining their energy reliability and efficient production. For example, the Tharisa mine in the North West also aims to reach carbon neutrality through its renewable energy procurement, starting with a 40MW solar plant. The projects will further enable socio-economic development for local communities and meet the requirements of the South African Mining Charter.
