Ryan Zimmerman heads back to DL, Brian Goodwin called up

Goodwin joins Wilmer Difo and Pedro Severino as somewhat unexpected arrivals to the Nationals roster, and Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Koda Glover as young pitchers given a chance. “Zim’s a little down about it because he’s tired of being hurt and tired of being on the DL,” Nationals Manager Dusty Baker said. The Nationals called up outfielder Brian Goodwin to replace him on the roster, a 2011 compensation round pick who was once considered a top prospect but who struggled the past two seasons. After hitting .219 in 2014 and .226 in 2015, Goodwin is hitting .284 with a .784 OPS that ranks him in the International League’s Top 20. The Nationals added him to the 40-man roster in December 2014, but he has never been called up.
