The bell tolled for Ryan Dzingel’s days with Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. The club received forward Anthony Duclair, along with a second-round pick in 2020 and a second-round pick in 2021, and sent a Calgary seventh-round pick to Columbus with Dzingel. By getting the two second-round picks in return for Dzingel, the Senators could have as many as 16 picks (depending on the conditional picks) in the first three rounds of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 drafts. Really, the Senators had reservations about Dzingel in the first place and this is probably the right decision. The club set the Thursday deadline for Stone and Dzingel because Ottawa no longer wanted to risk its assets before the deadline.
