Russian sailor cleared of cocaine charges, two tourists convicted


The first mate of an international container ship has been found not guilty of importing cocaine into New Zealand, but two tourists have been found guilty of importing 4kg of the drug. On Monday, a jury cleared Cherushev of charges of importing and supplying cocaine, following over five hours of deliberations over two days. Lukasik was convicted of importing the cocaine and money laundering. Wilk was convicted of importing and supplying cocaine, conspiracy to supply and possession of the drug. Ralph Wilk has previously pleaded guilty to one charge of supplying cocaine and one of money laundering.
