"During the meeting with French envoy Desagneaux, we discussed the current situation in Libya. The need for a ceasefire and to prevent a further escalation [of the conflict] was stressed. We agreed on the need for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict and a complete ceasefire to ensure the security of the civilian population. The politicians met on Thursday after the French envoy had talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, during which they discussed establishing a sustainable inter-Libyan national dialogue. After Libya's long-standing leader, Muammar Gaddafi, was overthrown and killed in 2011, Libya stopped functioning as a unified state.
