Russia is set to disconnect from the internet temporarily as part of preparations for a potential cyber-war in the future, it has been claimed. The test - set to take place before April - will see data passing between organisations and Russian citizens remain inside the country instead of being routed internationally. It comes after a law was introduced to Russia's parliament last year mandating technical changes required to allow Russia's internet to operate independently. Under the law, Russia's internet service providers (IPSs) would be required to ensure the independence of the country's Runet internet space should foreign powers attempt to isolate the nation online. In October, Britain publicly accused Russia's military intelligence service of carrying out a campaign of reckless and destabilising cyber-attacks across the world.
