In early April, Gyllenhaal and his own tie-dyed Russ & Daughters t-shirt went viral, when he did the shirtless handstand challenge popular on TikTok using the shirt representing the beloved New York City brand. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Independent Restaurant Coalition estimates that 85% of independent restaurants may close by the end of the year, without significant federal aid. Along with Gyllenhaal, several celebrities have lended their voice and personalities to help support restaurants in 2020. In early August, chef Andrew Zimmern paired up with actor Morgan Freeman to create a PSA on why the federal government needs to save restaurants.
