Rural principals 'in tears' over need for supportThe principal of a small rural Taranaki school is calling for help after seeing colleagues in tears over the pressures they face. She said at the Rural and Teaching Principals' Conference in June, principals were in tears. The pay for rural principals does not reflect their responsibilities, she said. Katrina Casey, deputy secretary of sector enablement and support at the Ministry of Education, said the Ministry values the hard work and commitment of rural principals. NZEI president Lynda Stuart said their 2016 survey had shown there was not enough support for rural principals, and another survey was due to be released in the New Year.
