Rupee starts flat at 65.12 against dollar


The rupee on Friday inched up 2 paise to 65.12 against dollar at the start as banks and corporates unwound their bets of the US currency.The local currency on Thursday had settled 25 paise down at 65.14 as concerns persisted over US President Donald Trump’s trade policy.Domestic equity markets opened in the green after positive leads. The BSE Sensex opened up 113 points, or 0.34 per cent, at 33,465. The NSE Nifty rose 28.65 points, or 0.28 per cent, to 10,271.Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 364.80 crore on March 8, showed provisional data. However, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 675.26 crore.Government bonds settled mixed on Thursday following alternate bouts of buying and selling.Overnight call money softened due to lack of demand from borrowing banks amid ample liquidity in the banking system.The 6.79 per cent 10-year benchmark bond maturing in 2027 rose to Rs 93.12, from Rs 93.05, while its yield dropped to 7.85 per cent, from 7.86 per cent.The 7.17 per cent government security maturing in 2028 went up to Rs 96.63, from Rs 96.51. Its yield edged down to 7.66 per cent, from 7.68 per cent.
