Runners, walkers stand up against substance abuse


The Stand Up Androscoggin Valley 10K race Saturday morning drew 44 runners and walkers. The race is part of the organization’s effort to raise awareness of the problem of drug and substance abuse in the valley. Symbolizing the collaborative effort being taken, the race started at Veterans Park in Berlin and continued along Route 16 to the Gorham town common. First across the finish line was Jordan Varano with a time of 35:41. The second place finisher and the first woman across was Suzanna Laughland with a time of 41:45 (PHOTO BY BARBARA TETREAULT)
