Prominent Toronto lawyer Joseph Groia has lost once again in his long-standing fight against his incivility conviction from the Law Society of Upper Canada. Ontario’s top court ruled Tuesday in a 2-1 decision that Groia’s conviction should remain in place. Groia’s conviction and penalty — a one-month suspension and order to pay $200,000 in costs — was further upheld last year by a trio of Divisional Court judges. That conviction was maintained by the Law Society’s appeal panel. The penalty was put on hold pending the Court of Appeal’s ruling.
