In a message sent via WhatsApp to the media, she said 78% of the workers' wages had been paid as of Wednesday. BGMEA statistics showed that approximately 19.2 lakh workers had received their wages among 24.7 lakh workers of BGMEA's member factories, close to 78% of the total. Among 2,274 of BGMEA's member factories, 1,186 factories' workers received their wages. Rubana Huq also pointed out there were a few reasons behind the delay in paying the workers' wages, which included uncertainty regarding brands cancelling or postponing their orders, which already exceeded $3.15 billion.
