Todt said the proposal is under UN secretary general's consideration. The fund would be primarily used in low and middle income countries such as India. All initiatives including the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, which is before the Parliament , are aimed at reducing road deaths by 50%. As per the proposal, the automotive industry or tyre producers could provide contributions for road safety based on the number of vehicles or tires sold. The insurance industry could be encouraged to contribute given the benefits achieved through a reduction in road crashes. At least one in every 10 road deaths across the globe take place in India.
