Royal meeting for young anti-bullying campaignerSeven Sharp Ashleigh Smith collected a special award at Buckingham Palace for her work on mental health and anti-bullying initiatives. Anti-bullying campaigner Ashleigh Smith has been presented with a Queen's Young Leaders Award by the Queen in recognition of her efforts to curb online bullying in schools. Jan McKenzie Ashleigh Smith, 19, of Naseby, has been named New Zealand's Queen's Young Leader award winner for 2017. When government funding came through for an anti-bullying campaign, she, along with students from five Central Otago Schools, started Sticks 'n' Stones. In addition, Ashleigh mentors young people in schools throughout Central Otago and Dunedin, helping students to run workshops about bullying and mental health.
