Environment Canterbury told the Herald in a statement efforts to contain and recover the oil from the water’s surface were working well. “The ship remains anchored in Akaroa Harbour.”The ship’s company is working with Environment Canterbury staff, who are monitoring and assisting with clean-up efforts. Canterbury Hits radio host Connor Kitto said his girlfriend had spotted the oil slick from her family bach nearby. An oil spill can be seen in Akaroa Harbour, Canterbury after the HMNZS Te Kaha spilled 200-300 litres of lubricating oil while at anchor. Local man Mark Robinson shared a photo of the ship in the harbour beside the oil slick.
