Roy Hattersley backs second Brexit vote to 'enfranchise the young'

The veteran Labour politician Roy Hattersley has come out in favour of a second Brexit referendum, just days before Theresa May is expected to lose a parliamentary vote on the withdrawal agreement she reached with Brussels in November. He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Saturday morning that “sometimes, you just have to do what is right”. While Ireland had no say in the Brexit referendum, Bruton said, the result had an impact on the Good Friday agreement, which brought peace to the island in 1998. “None of us – and that includes the leadership of the Labour party – ought to waste our time talking about another renegotiation. If it were backed by the Labour party, and in consequence, by the progressive trade unions, the idea would be irresistible.
