It also applies to Mike Spracklen, the 78-year-old former Canadian rowing coach who, despite the protestations of Rowing Canada, still casts a shadow over the Canadian program. He was definitely more than a rowing coach. It remains to be seen if Canada still has a high-performance rowing program. He also resigned his seat on the board of Rowing Canada, party due to family commitments and partly due to the way Spracklen was treated. Anything less will raise some uncomfortable questions, largely because Rowing Canada made the contentious decision to disband the men’s eight program and concentrate on smaller boats.
