Rossies help TUS Midlands Freshers football team make history

Four Roscommon players helped TUS Midlands make history on Thursday evening as they won the Electric Ireland Freshers Division One Football Championship title for the first time following a 1-15 to 1-10 victory away to DCU. Carthy and Duggan enjoyed a stellar 2025 season with Roscommon CBS, leading them to an All-Ireland Colleges’ Senior B football title, while Heneghan impressed for the Roscommon U-20 footballers and produced a number of excellent displays in last year’s senior football championship. McGowan is the goalkeeper for the Pádraig Pearses intermediate football team. TUS Midlands’ success caps off a fine week for Roscommon players with their third level colleges. Cillian Campbell (St. Barry’s) won a Sigerson Cup medal with UL, while Ciarán Lennon (Clann na nGael) played a key role in helping Trinity College secure the Trench Cup and promotion to the Sigerson Cup next season.
